When the mind detaches from reality, support and treatment are essential.
Psychosis refers to mental conditions where a person’s perception of reality is severely distorted. This includes disorders like schizophrenia and paranoid delusions. Symptoms may involve hallucinations, delusional thinking, disorganized speech or behavior, and a profound detachment from reality.
The exact cause is often unclear. Some forms have a strong genetic component, while others arise under extreme stress, especially in people with certain predispositions. In some cases, symptoms first appear in adolescence; in others, much later in life. Drug use or traumatic events can also trigger psychotic episodes.
Psychotherapy is not a primary treatment for psychosis, but it can play a supportive role — helping individuals build trust, cope with societal stigma, manage daily functioning, and adapt to work and social environments.
No stigma. No dramatization. With the right assessment and tailored therapy, progress is possible.
